Interesting Saltburn By The Sea, Paddock House

Saltburn by the Sea, review of the Elddis Explore 422. Having a “new” secondhand caravan means you need to test everything out. We have a daughter who lives in Middlesborough and this seemed to be the ideal place for our test. We have Motorhome and Caravan club membership and like to go to CL sites which are small and quiet. Looking through all the sites we could stay at, Paddock House caught my eye. In this blog I review Paddock House caravan site and chat about our caravan and Saltburn By The Sea.

Staying at Paddock House CL camp site.

It is always hard choosing a perfect place to stay but this was one of the quietest and convenient sites for exploring Saltburn by the Sea. This is a 5 pitch site that has a small wash room with toilet , basin and shower. It has waste facilities and an Elsan point. The site boasts 2 huge dog walking area and from some of the pitches you can see the blue of the sea.

Paddock House Cl Site at Saltburn By The Sea

We went for 2 nights and arrived on site around Saturday lunch time. Parking up was very easy, the site has good roads and the pitches are all firm. Very easy to manoeuvre your caravan on.  The ablution room was clean and had nice hot water. We had a nice walk around the site, it boasts two nice dog walking areas for those who have dogs. The owners are very welcoming and supplied us with good directions to get there. They also send a map and instructions on how to use the electric hook ups.

We will like to recommend this site to anyone who would like to stay on a quiet, well kept site, with easy access to the beaches at Saltburn By The Sea and Marske.

The sea front has a lot of historical architecture as well as the most wonderful pier, not to mention the fabulous restaurants and ice cream parlours.

MAIN FEATURE ON THE SEA FRONT

Saltburn Cliff Tramway is Britain’s oldest water balanced cliff funicular.  An interesting engineering story that still works perfectly, ferrying people up and down the cliff. Well worth a visit.

Review of the Eddlis Xplore 422, our first night out.

The plus things we enjoyed in our new van while testing it at Saltburn By The Sea.

  • The beds/seats were very comfortable and wide enough to enjoy your sleep without falling off and long enough to not hit anything with your feet.
  • The oven worked effectively and we were able to cook some pizza’s very quickly.
  • The cooker and sink were easy to use and the space around the cooking area was very manageable.
  • All the cupboard doors click lock closed and stayed close for our journey.
  • The toilet was awkward at first, as it was facing the doorway, after a few uses we realised we could turn it and that made it perfect.
  • We each had a shower and that was wonderful. We did not make use of electric hook up so we showered on gas.
  • Plenty of storage, space for food and clothes.
  • The switches and controls are super easy to work, and the solar panel did a good job keeping everything charged.
  • The motor movers we really nice and enabled precision parking.

The things we found adequate but needing some getting used to.

  • The lighting was good, almost too good. It has all LED lights which provide a stark white light. This is great for reading but just to have a relaxing light in the van it was very stark and not a warm light.
  • The bathroom door was rattling in the frame so we put a bit of foam on it so it fit better.
  • Once you have your bedding on the bunks/seats you can’t sit easily with your legs under the table as it is a bit low. All is however very do able and we just need to adapt.
  • The long side cupboard in the kitchen is going to take some packing. Everything we put in there jumped about and slide around as we drove.

Things which we knew we would need to do to make things easy for ourselves.

We purchased a scissor jack and some chassis jack points. These fit to our caravan’s ALKO chassis. In our previous caravan we found it almost impossible to jack it up to change a tyre. A flat tyre makes it difficult to remove the basket under the van to retrieve the spare wheel. Reaching the jack once you positioned it to raise it up can be impossible if you are older.  And Yes, you could just call the AA, that is if you have caravan break down cover.

We purchased the Kojack system from Ebay.  It comes with a scissor jack and two bracket fixings for the chassis on either side. It also comes with an extended jack winder, this we found was quite fiddly to use and so changed the fitting on the jack to take a socket fitting.  We tried this system out and it all worked very well.

Conclusion of our first trip in our new van to Saltburn by the sea and Paddock House campsite.

We will stay there again as it is a great site. Our caravan is perfect for us and we are looking forward to spending time touring around to see more places in the lovely UK.
