New Look 6142 – Review for Mens Track Pants – View B

What fabric did I use?

I used a knitted fabric which was lined with fleece. This is called sweat fabric or knitted
fleece. I bought this from Abakahn fabrics.

How did the fabric for Newlook 6142 track pants view B handle?

  • This is perfect fabric for the Winter.
  • It does not move that much during sewing. I used a Jersey sewing needle in my machine.
  • It was a bit thick for my machine where lots of seams join. A little tug on the fabric
    helped it through.
  • Layer the seams to either side to lessen the bulk.
  • Use a stretch needle in your sewing machine with regular 120 thread.
  • My overlocker managed to sew this fabric easily and it looked very professional.

Changes to pattern Newlook 6142 and fit.

  • I had to shorten the leg length by 2″ as it was too long for my husband.
  • The fit is good, loose fitting as described.
  • Measure the pattern before cutting out to check sizes.

Overall assessment of the pattern Newlook 6142.

  • I would make this pattern again.
  • Suitable for beginners.
  • Good instructions, good fit for size.

Three pieces needed for the pants. 2X Back, 2X front, 4X pockets. Elastic for the
waistband.

I press my garment as I go. Don’t use a very hot iron.

Sew the inside leg seams together. I top stitched this seam to stop it stretching over time.

Match seams but try keep the bulk down by placing them side either side rather than same
side.

Pin the outer leg and pocket seam carefully. Place a few extra pins in to hold the pockets
straight.

Very tricky sewing the pocket opening bar. I had to unpick the first time but managed the
second time.

I used a stretch stitch to sew the casing. Use a zigzag stitch on width 1.5 length 2 if you do
not have a stretch stitch.

Feed the elastic through carefully. Don’t over stretch the elastic when pulling it through.

All done!!!

A nice warm track pants with pockets for the Winter. I can recommend Newlook 6142
